Three family businesses, one shared vision — a collaboration born out of a love of materials, design and beauty.
Lauritzon, Niemi Design and Sidoste have joined forces in a collaboration collection that brings textile design, furniture design and sock-making to the same table. Three Finnish family businesses, each of them now led by its fourth generation.
How it started
It began with a simple thought: together we are stronger. All three of us believe that Finnish craft can make something genuinely new and interesting.
Working with Niemi Design and Sidoste felt natural from the very start, and the project moved quickly from idea to production and launch.
We brought what we do best — patterns and fabrics. We developed the concept together and arrived at three patterns that had to work equally well on the back of an armchair and on the leg of a sock.
It was not simply a matter of choosing patterns. The work ran on several fronts at once: the fabrics and the shapes of the furniture, and the sock materials, knitting techniques, yarns and scale.
One pattern joins the sofa and the sock
The choice fell on three of our best-loved patterns: Preppy, a bold black-and-white stripe always paired with a single colour; Zoom, our graphic and colourful signature; and Catz, the king of the cats.
These patterns upholster Niemi Design’s Helmet chair and footstool and the Liva sofa. The same patterns appear on socks made at Sidoste’s mill in Koivistonkylä, Tampere, in three models: the Zoom cotton sock, the Preppy terry sock and the Catz fluffy sock.
Made for the darkening evenings
The socks are designed as perfect companions for the evenings of autumn and winter. With them on your feet, there is nothing lovelier than curling into the corner of a sofa upholstered in Lauritzon’s soft fabrics, or into the embrace of the armchair. Every piece is made from high-quality materials, so it lasts and delights year after year.
